The Professor
Richard Brown, a professor of literature at a conservative college, discovers he is terminally ill. Forgetting his reputation, he goes to all lengths to enjoy one last taste of life and freedom. An emotional benefit for Johnny Depp in a tragicomic tale of farewell from director and screenwriter Wayne Roberts.
Richard wears strict suits, teaches literature to indifferent students, and tries to be a good family man. He is no longer young, but the end of life seems like something far away, until one day doctors announce that he has a hopeless stage of lung cancer. It could all be over very soon. Richard decides to waste no time and live a life without looking back and without cheating, allowing himself things he has never allowed. He dismisses students who don’t care about his subject and teaches only the best of the best using the “author’s methodology.” He tells his superiors to their faces what he thinks, and spends his free time in complete isolation. At the same time, he admits his diagnosis only to his best friend, leaving even his wife and teenage daughter in the dark. But the moment of farewell is approaching, and Richard is determined to be honest to the end.
